A friendly face...

  • Knee cartilage surgery

Knee cartilage and meniscus tears can occur after an accident or injury to the knee. MRI scans can the show the problem that sometimes needs an operation.

  • Knee ligament reconstruction

Knee ligaments are frequently injured or completely torn during sports. Some of these heal on their own but others do need surgical reconstruction to allow return to sport.

  • Patellar instability

Most kneecap problems are due to muscle imbalance and can be managed with physiotherapy. However if surgery is needed, I provide an 'a la carte' individualised approach to diagnose the underlying problem and propose a personalised solution.

  • Knee realignment surgery

Deformity can cause pain and recurrent injury. This can be addressed with an indivisualised computer-generated plan to re-align the bones around the knee.

  • Partial knee replacement

I am fully trained to perform partial knee replacement in suitable patients. The recovery is quicker and the risks are smaller than a total knee replacement.

  • Total knee replacement (including Customised)

I am pleased to offer both traditional and customised knee replacements for arthritis affecting the whole knee joint. Customised knee replacements take out some of the approximation and compromise during surgery.

MBBS(London)

I graduated from St. Bart's and the London Medical School in 1996, with several undergraduate distinctions.

MRCS(England)

I completed my Basic Surgical training and passed the Membership exam at my first attempt. I knew I wanted to do Orthopaedics, but got some experience in Plastic Surgery before starting Higher Surgical Training Rotations in England.

Higher Surgical Training in Orthopaedics (CCT)

I worked and trained in several hospitals in South West London, Surrey and Sussex. I took a year out to undertake research at the prestigious Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, USA), which exposed me to the American care system.

Dip(Sp&Ex Med)

I also completed the UK Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine during my Higher Surgical Training.

FRCS(Tr&Ortho)

I passed the final exit exam at my first attempt, and then applied for sub-specialty fellowships in knee (and hip) surgery.

Bournemouth Knee Fellowship

I increased my experience of all aspects of knee replacement (partial, total and revision surgery), as well as knee cartilage (meniscus) surgery and knee ligament (ACL, PCL) reconstruction.

Locum Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Addenbrooke's Hospital (Cambridge)

I was appointed as a temporary Consultant for 6 months at the major trauma centre in Cambridge. This gave me further experience of managing complex limb fractures, as well as hip and knee replacement surgery.

Substantive Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Epsom & St Helier Hospitals

In 2010, I was appointed on the permanent Consultant staff in Epsom and St Helier Hospitals NHS Trust. I have been involved in delivering the improved Hip Fracture Service at St Helier Hospital. The Epsom site includes the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre, where I regularly perform hip and knee replacements, as well as arthroscopic and open knee ligament reconstructions. I also provide a paediatric knee service for children with acute and chronic knee problems.

I am continuously involved in teaching and training junior surgeons, as well as Clinical Governance and Best Practice activities. I am also a current examiner for the Royal Colleges of Surgery (England and Scotland).
